Memorable User Experiences

My instructional design work has given me the opportunity to create many memorable experiences for learners. A lot of these have been in the context of scenarios that I developed, but here are some stand-alone pieces that I am proud of:

Healthy Eating Course

Try it here: Serving Size?
A brief interactive element I developed early in my instructional design career was part of a course on healthy eating. The course content was heavy on facts and short on items of interest.

Although the factual content of the course was not subject to alteration, I was determined to give the learners some enjoyable experiences that they would remember.

So I designed some elements called "Quick Starts" as brief, light-hearted, engaging segments that started each section. This was one of the Quick Starts: Serving Size?

Prevention Card Game

A lot of my work at Teleologic dealt with catastrophes of various kinds: how to prevent them, how to respond to them, and how to recover from them.

We were always looking for new, interesting ways to communicate the principles of this body of content. One interactive tool that I developed – but unfortunately was never taken to production – was the Prevention Card Game.

We tested many iterations of the game - some simple, some complex - and discovered that the simplest really was the best. I made a mock deck of cards and had fun playing the game with my colleagues. I can't supply a deck of cards, so here are the rules: Prevention Card Game Rules.
