Accolades

Clients, co-workers, and supervisors have complemented my work. Here are a few examples:

Learner feedback on the U.S. Army North Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) Program:

I actually was familiar with DSCA from prior work and when I took the pre-test passed and technically could have gone onto DSCA II. However I elected to take the class since I have not worked the field for several years. Glad I did. Not only did it update me and cover some things I did not know, I also found in engaging even for a student with perhaps a bit more prior knowledge than most.

Client feedback, communicated by Teleologic's CEO, on the U.S. Army North Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) Program:

I have never had a client --- and so many members of a client's leadership team --- so lavishly praise Teleologic's performance.

The member of the client team who we have worried about the most called our work "the crown jewel of everything we do."

The senior strategist and "boss" told us that what we have done has earned them praise from nearly every student they engage and differentiated U.S. Army North as a quality leader.

Client feedback communicated to Teleologic's CEO:

I just want to let you know how completely satisfied I am working with Bill Thomas, John Bowen, and Kari Sandhaas on numerous projects over the past year.  They are all very professional, smart, ingenious, dependable and easy to converse with.  We have accomplished more in the past year than we had in the previous two years.

Recommendation of client (Jeff Havens):

I had the unique pleasure of working with John Bowen on a project when he was employed at Teleologic, and I can't say enough good things about him.  Our company combines corporate training with entertainment in a fairly unique way, and when John was assigned to help us turn our presentations into a series of interactive online offerings, we weren't sure that he'd be able to capture our uncommon delivery and approach correctly.

In every respect John exceeded my best hopes.  For one thing, he works very fast - so fast, in fact, that there were times that I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up my end of the process.  But more importantly, he was able to adapt his writing and design style to perfectly complement the approach we were looking for.  We had worked with others in the past who just didn't seem to 'get it,' but John went beyond simply understanding what we were trying to do.  He actually added to it, and ultimately made something better than we had initially created.

I would love to work with John again, and you could not ask for a more focused, capable, and creative employee.  Hire him quickly, or someone else will.

Recommendation of former colleague:

I am very pleased to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of John Bowen for a position with
your organization. It was my privilege to work with John Bowen at Teleologic Learning Company for
over five years (2003-2008) during my tenure there. I highly recommend him.

With a background in education and over six years of adult learning development at Teleologic, John
is well-versed in the fields of instructional design, training, and education. In addition, he is highly
experienced in utilizing the Internet as a versatile tool for both formal and informal learning.

Working with John as a learning architect on a variety of different project teams, I witnessed John’s
creativity and professionalism first hand. He can be counted on to brainstorm and develop creative,
relevant ways to engage learners. He successfully architected gaming environments, researched and
developed practice scenarios, and authored learning content for a wide range of educational programs.

John is a competent and talented writer — accurate, accessible, and versatile — with a keenly
developed sensitivity to reader needs. He is particularly adept at writing in a well paced, succinct,
and reader-friendly manner appropriate for web-based content and instruction. In addition, he is a
quick and accurate editor, with an eye for detail and catching errors. In all respects, John’s work is
of the highest quality.

Throughout the time I worked with John, I experienced him to be an active, willing team player.
Ready to offer assistance, problem-solve, and congenially carry his share of the workload, John
quickly earned the respect of both colleagues and clients. His positive attitude and ability to develop
a comfortable, respectful rapport is an asset to any organization.

In short, John is a creative, congenial, hardworking, and top-performing professional. He has excellent writing/editorial skills, is imaginative and well-organized, can work both independently and as part of a team, and will dependably meet project deadlines and requirements.

John Bowen has my highest recommendation as a professional and colleague. Please feel free to
contact me if you should need additional details.

Sincerely,

Kari Sandhaas
Senior Agency Training Designer, COUNTRY Financial
(former Senior Learning Architect/Creative Director for Teleologic Learning Company)

Recommendation of former colleague:

I have known John Bowen for over six years now and it is a pleasure to recommend him. John has more than ten years of experience designing integrated curricula and developing network-based learning products and environments. He served as the lead researcher and architect for several of the distance learning courses that were developed for the Leader Development & Education for Sustained Program (www.ldesp.org), the U.S. Army North’s Defense Support for Civilian Authorities program and the Homeland Security/Homeland Defense program that I was involved in designing/managing while at the Teleologic Learning Company from 2005 – 2010.

John is one of the best researchers in the firm and is able to distill obstruse and often difficult to understand material to simple, engaging and relevant online content. Beyond his excellent research and writing skills, he is, to put it simply, a very good teacher. His creativity and project management abilities made him the natural choice, when selecting a lead for developing scenario based exercises. John managed, created the scenarios, developed the script and the decisions points for the CBRNE, Nuclear, hurricane and Afghanistan-Pakistan multimedia exercises that were designed and built by the firm for USARNORTH and LDESP.

His ability to do the background research and create realistic situations contextualized the educational material and made the problem sets relevant for senior leaders. Thanks to John, the scenarios that were developed for both clients were nuanced and took the distance learning phase to the next level, testing the ability of senior military leaders to make complex decisions required to operate in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.

John is very detail oriented, manages his time extremely well and is able to identify issues (relating to content and technology) that learners may encounter while engaging distance learning material. He very effectively managed the ARNORTH program from 2007-2008 and the migration process when the client wanted to move the courses/site to a different learning management system, communicating directly with clients, managing expectations and deadlines.

It has been a pleasure working with John and I would be happy to provide further details regarding his unique skill sets upon request.

Regards,
Vino Roy, PhD LDESP Strategic Analyst & Senior Lecturer Naval Postgraduate School
